Amara pulled herself out of the wreckage, back popping loudly as her bones readjusted. She rolled her shoulders, making sure her body wouldn't heal in an improper way. The vampire had gotten in several good hits that would make her sore for a while...but nothing life threatening. She would live...as she always had.
Amara's gait was halting as she approached Jason. She could tell that he was upset by the tone of his words, the way they trembled as he spoke them...he was scared for his family. She understood how he felt. She knew that feeling well. She saw the tears form in his eyes, welling up past the protective barriers he had surely erected. No man wanted to cry...not even a young boy like he was. Amara couldn't help it...she flitted to his side and wrapped her arms around him. Her flesh might be cold...but maybe she could make him feel less alone.
"There is a chance, Jason." She whispered into his ear. "I'm sorry...but I don't know how much of a chance. The blood...." She shook her head. "...there was a lot. If they are turning...you should hurry. We should hurry. They shouldn't wake up alone." She didn't think there was much of a chance that they were still alive...but she couldn't tell him that. She didn't know what was worse, the possibility that they had become vampires...or the possibility that they were dead.
Amara released him from his embrace. "I know you don't know me...but I have fought by your side, and I am willing to help you do whatever needs done." She stated matter-of-factly. She would either help him bury his family so that vampires wouldn't be suspected, or help him transfer his family somewhere safe...whatever the outcome was...if he even wanted her help at all.

"Th-thank y-you." was all Jason could manage. He just then stood up, and did a shift only to manage his wounds, and to run faster. This is done when someone is in distress, and only then. It helps them cope as humans. So he began to head to his home, the place where he felt safe, sane, and.....well, human.
He just ran, he knew where it was without knowing, and he followed the obvious trail that the other vampires left behind. He did not know if Amara was following, and if she was, he would half to let her know that he appriciated what she was doing for him. If he had no family, he may just follow her for a time, just to escape the pain that has left him empty, and possibly alone.
He came upon his house, and knew that something was not as it should. Obviously to the untrained mind, there were dead people in there, but there was something else, something, completly, alien. He became a full human again, and walked in. The immediate scene is one that even the most stalwart would have vomited at the site. These vampires did not feed on a single one of his famliy members, only bite one of them, and it was his older brother, who was writhing in agony on the floor. The rest of his family, was smeared all over the walls, and even the ceiling. It was unlike anything Jason had ever seen. But he had to take care of his older brother.
The only hope that he had, was in the north, and he had to go......

Amara raced after him. His heavy stride was easy to follow, but she let him have his distance. She knew that what he would find would not be pretty. She knew from the smell of human entrails on the vampires that his family would not be left alive. She wished he didn't have to see what she knew he would, but it would be unfair to not let him know what had happened.
The sweet alluring aroma of blood filled her nostrils before she even saw the house, making her mouth water. She regretted having not fed in so long...and worried she might do something rash...but after so long of learning self-control, she was able to combat it.
The stench of something else also reached her. A smell so familiar that she inwardly groaned. This would be difficult. A newborn vampire was very, very, very dangerous, because the feed would overpower every sense...making them crave blood, even if it is their family members.
Amara rushed through the door after Jason. The sight did not sicken her. She had seen many such scenes before. It did sicken her that the sight made the Thirst deep in her chest burn, craving for it. Her eyes darkened and her teeth seemed to feel sharper...but she turned to the writhing boy on the floor, looking back at Jason. "Stay back!" She warned. "He'll kill you if you get close enough." She shifted her eyes back to the boy on the floor, wondering what to do. It would have been more merciful to kill the boy for good and save him the misery of this life...but she couldn't do that.
"Jason...are you okay?" Amara asked, voice cool and calm. "I'm sorry...I really am." She muttered. "What do you want to do?"

"I..I don't know. I am in for over my head. I have no idea what to do. I want to save him, but, should I?" Jason said. He was dying on the inside. His whole world was gone, and in less than an hour no doubt. He had had dinner here only 30 minutes ago. The leftovers were still on the counter. He wanted his older brother, but did not really know what to do.
"Amara, what do you think I should do? I came here fully expecting nothing left, but......" And his voice trailed off. What should he do? Is there anyway to stop the transformation from human to vampire? There must be something, but Amara told him to stay away, cause he would kill him when he got close.
All Jason could feel was the pain of loss, and the indecision that comes to someone that knows what is happening to their family member.

Amara could almost feel the pain and confusion resonating off of Jason. She walked up to him, forced him to look at her with a firm grip under his chin. "There is no going back for him." She whispered. "If I would have got here before it took effect...I could have stopped it...and I could still try, but I don't know if it will work. You can let him become the monster that killed him...or you can end his misery now. There are no true good vampires. We live off of blood...we kill, we murder...we are monsters." She shook her head, releasing him. "It's not my decision. I will follow what you say. I can try to bring the poison out of him...and he will be normal...but forever scarred. Tell me, and I will follow your word."
Amara watched the boy on the floor. She might still have time. She might be able to save him...but she waited for Jason's decision. It was his family, not hers. She had no right to choose his fate.

"I think, you should help him...." Jason said uneasily. Then he had a thought. This is his BROTHER, doesn't he have the same genes as him? If so, could this be a reaction that an unawakend shifter has to vampire bites?
"Amara, i have changed my mind," He said with resolve, "I want him to live in anyway possible, but this could be the way my kind react to vampire bites. Do you know of anyone that was a shifter that has been bitten by a vampire, and if he becomes a vampire, then we can kill him before he can hurt anyone, just as we can figure out if he is on or not."
Jason had a glimmer of hope, and he was not about to let it go.....

Amara studied the boy's wild thrashing. Something wasn't normal about it. No...he shouldn't be in pain...not yet. He should have still been unconscious, almost dead in appearance.. She narrowed her eyes. "I have never heard of such....but it could happen. His reaction is...different than I have seen. You may be right." A smile crossed her lips, showing her sharp pointed fangs. "It is dangerous...but I will allow this to happen...if he lives through it...he could be normal...or he could be vampire. Either way...I will stay and help him."
Amara looked at the walls around her. "Do you want to move him somewhere...less gore-covered?" She immediately felt bad about being so insensitive. She didn't apologize...she couldn't take it back. "Would you want to come back to reality in this?" She asked softly.

Jason looked around. No this is not the place for a normal person to awaken, but if he is a newborn, ir might distract him jsut enough for him and Amara to kill him. "Let us move him downstairs. If he is human, I can do something that will cause him to want to escape through the fire escape, or you, but if he is a vampire, it may give us the time we need to kill him, only if he is near the smell of blood, and runs toward it." Jason felt resolve. Where there is hope in the world, there is a chance that things may be right.
"And think of it this way. He may end up awakening his own shifter powers. But no matter what, he will be a human that knows about the supernatural world. Weather he likes it or not." Jason was only hoping on a shred of something unknown. People already know that vampire vemon kills shifters, but does it kill unawakend shifters? And if it doesn't, what does it do the the person? These are all things that Jason has taken into account, and grabbed onto the hope that shines for him, and his brother.

Amara gritted her teeth. The smell of the blood around her was driving her crazy. It intoxicated her...made her want it like a lover craves their partner. She shook her head to clear away those thoughts. If she wasn't careful, she would make things worse. She resolved to feed as soon as possible. It may take a while, depending on how things turned out here. Hopefully she would have enough time before true Thirst hit and she ended up hurting Jason, or his brother.
Amara swallowed, stilling the tremor that had started in her body. "Okay. I'll get him. He can't hurt me...he's still human. He's fighting hard enough to break you." She said with a sly smile, though she didn't know if shifters were stronger than humans or not. "Open the door for me."
Amara approached the boy. She needed to stop thinking of him as "the boy", because he was obviously older than a boy. He was Jason's brother, and she should think of him that way. She snaked her hands under his arms, pinning his swinging fists. She lifted him over her shoulder with no problem at all. He was burning up, probably with fever. His heart was racing...but at least it hadn't stopped beating. He was breathing in ragged gasps. She hoped they weren't too late.
Amara held onto him as best as she could, and waited for Jason to show her into the lower part of the house...for his sake as much as hers.

"Here, it is this way." Jason lead Amara to the basement, to his older brothers room, and had her set him down on his bed. Jason got some music that he liked playing, and sat on the couch he had set up.
"His name is Bryce. And he just got back from college only a few nights ago." Jason felt he had to let her know something about him. Just so that she really understood who he was. "He is 20 years old, and a real athlete. I used to look up to him, till things started going down hill for him. I was the one keeping him together while he was at college."Jason Said. He understood that she had no real interest in him, so he stoped talking. Till he got a little hungry.
"I am sorry. I have been insensitive to who you are. I know you want to make sure that i am alright and stuff, but you should take care of yourself for a while. Bryce is still going to take at least another day or so to fully change, for better of worse, so you have some time to kill.....or spend." Jason needed some time alone, and he had to get some homework done. even if his whole family is dead, he still had to go to school for now. He had his friends there that were looking after him when things get rough in his life.
"I will be fine here on my own. And maybe when you get back, you can help with my Calculus, since you are the oldest person around, you might have been the one that helped out the dead mathematitions way back when." Jason smiled. It was good to have a little light int he darkness closing in on him.

Amara listened as he spoke. It was good to know the man's name. Now that he had a name...he seemed more like a person, and less like a body.
She turned to him when he suggested her leaving. "You aren't insensitive." She said. "I don't blame you...and you are right...I do have things I have to take care of." She dropped her gaze to the ground. Considering that those things pertained to what had happened at his house, she didn't elaborate. Why didn't he realize that she was one of them, as well? "I have a cell phone...thankfully. Call me if anything happens." She pulled out a slip of paper and a pen from her jacket pocket...which always contained mostly useless stuff...and jotted down her number.
Amara turned to look at Bryce, worried about him. She was more worried about leaving Jason alone with him. "And even though I am old, does not mean anything." She glared at him. "When I was growing up, we didn't have to learn things at school...but you're lucky, I can help you...because since I have had over 400 years to live...I got a decent education." She lifted her chin, with a slight smile. "I'll be back tomorrow morning, if that's fine with you...I should be finished by then."

Jason sighed. He knew this was going to get really hard really fast. "Thank you, and, Amara, try not to feed here in town. These are the people I live with on a day to day basis." Jason felt he had to let her, the famale vampire, that he understood what she had to do. "And it was selfish of me to ask you to come into my house when there was so much blood hanging around. I will see you in the morning. I will be doing some of the things i normally do, but still here. I won't be going anywhere. I might get a hold of some people at let them know about this, or the story i cooked up to explain why there are no remains for then to bury." Jason grinned. No use being sad now. What is done, is done. Time to move on. And now, he had no real reason to stay here. He might go traveling. After High School.
"Oh, and if you get back before dawn, we have a large selection of books, movies, and in my room, the one above this one, there are a lot of bows, with a wide variety of arrows. I just thought if you had anything that you do, there are things to entertain yourself with." Jason just wanted to make Amara feel at home, for what she has done for him.
Jason now had some time to himself, which he spent conviently sleeping, or in a state of wakefulness in the event something changes with his brother, and rest.

Amara's smile was grim. So she hadn't escaped his notice after all. She had taken his silence for granted. "Don't worry about it, Jason. I have dealt with far worse than this. I already told you that I don't kill when I feed...but I will respect your wishes and go to a different town." She sighed. "Depending on the weather, I may stay hidden somewhere in your home. If not...I might take up your offer and shoot some arrows. Your kindness is much appreciated."
Amara took one last look at Bryce before turning and leaving the house. It would be a long night.

~while amara is away~
Jason sighed, he would have to do this now, while she was gone. He knew that his brother was not going to make it. The venom was reacting to both the human in him, and the shifter in him. The venom would kill the shifter part, which is central to the human part, so Bryce was going to die.
Jason shifted, and started to begin the greasome work. It is hard to kill you own family member. So he decided to make it quick. He put all of his strength into this. This was not a mercy kill, he had to try and really kill him like he was an enemy, so he did the one thing he could do right now. He went into full beat mode, and took of his brothers head.
After that, he left. He wrote a note for Amara, and left. The note said
"Amara, i have left. My brother began to become more vampire, and i ended it before anything bad could happen. I am leaving this town for good. I know you could follow me if you want, but i would like to be alone for a good few years. You can take what ever you want from the house. Just remember to burn the house before you go.

Amara returned to the house. She could sense an emptiness about it. Something was too quite...too serene. Something was wrong. She ran through the house, now unaffected by the gore, and darted into the basement. The sight was more than even she bargained for. Bryce was brutally mutilated. She immediately suspected vampires, but the note caught her eye. She picked it up and read it.
Amara lifted her eyes from the paper. "Your strength is admirable...Jason." She said, with a slight smile. He had proved that he could do what was right...without relying on anyone else. She tossed the note to the ground and left the house, taking only a few bows and a couple of quivers of strong arrows. That was all she needed. She carefully set the fire, making sure to leave nothing that would bring suspicion on her or Jason. It was all so perfect.
Amara watched the blaze for a while...felt its heat on her face before turning to leave. She hoped that it wasn't the last time she would see Jason...but she wouldn't follow him. She would wait for him to come back...and if he didn't come back...maybe he didn't want her as an ally after all. She could wait. She had all the time in the world, after all. Ah...the pleasures of being an immortal.
LE FIN!
